Qnap turbo nas. Software user manual (versions: 4.2.2, 4.2.3, and 4.2.4) this manual is applicable to the following turbo nas models: ts-128, ts-131, ts-228, ts-231. The world’s first smart PoE edge switch that runs QTS and supports hosting VMs.

I am new here and arrived because I would like to replace my current 4 years old NAS (Buffalo linkstation Pro) by a new one.
I really like the feature of the NAS being also a media-server and have therefore shortlisted the Qnap TS-269L and TS-269 Pro. I saw that there is only little difference between the 2 systems :
- 269L: Intel 1.86Ghz dual core, SATA 3Gb/s controller, no key lock tray
- 269 Pro: Intel 2.13Ghz dual core, SATA 6Gb/s controller, key lock tray
Usage of the NAS will be a standard home usage with storing and streaming photos, HD videos, movies and music. As mentioned I will use it as media-server and plug my big screen behind it through HDMI. Several renderers (1 TV, 2 PCs, 2 Android tablets, 2 iPhones and 2 sonos players) could stream media from the NAS in parallel.
So XBMC is definitely a feature I want to have. From what I could read it comes packaged with the 269L but has to be installed manually on the 269 Pro. Is this correct ?
And for my usage does it make sense to choose the 269 Pro and its better processor ?

Please follow the instructions to set up the hardware.	QTS is the operating system of QNAP NAS and must be installed before using it. Please follow the instructions to install it.	Log in with your username and password and start using your personal cloud.

Take out the disk tray from the QNAP NAS then fasten the disk with four screws matching the holes at the base of the disk tray.	Insert the disk trays into the QNAP NAS. Note: All the drive data will be cleared upon hard drive initialization.
Turn on the QNAP NAS.

Get Ready Power on your NAS and connect it to the Internet.

Start Cloud Installation Find the QRcode on your NAS (or its packaging) and scan it with your mobile device. You can also click here to enter the cloud installation process. Enter your 'Cloud Key' and follow the instructions to install the firmware.

Download Qfinder Pro Please download QNAP utility 'Qfinder Pro' based on your operating system to start firmware installation.

Install Qfinder Pro After downloading Qfinder Pro, please install it on your PC. This utility will help you to locate and configure the QNAP NAS on the LAN.

Search for your NAS and double click on it. The installation webpage will guide you through the installation process. If your NAS is not connected to the Internet, you must download it to a computer and upload it to the NAS. *The default username and password is admin/admin.

Remote control/Keyboard Either use the QNAP IR remote control or a USB keyboard to directly operate the NAS.

Start Installing If the NAS is connected to an HDMI display, the system will guide you through the installation process. This method does not require Internet access.

After completing the installation process (or if your device has pre-installed firmware) you can connect to the NAS using Qfinder Pro. For more details on using Qfinder Pro, please see the tutorial.
